Printmaking & Abstraction – Peeling Back the Layers

Part of her role as a Creative Director in advertising and design has involved a close relationship with the printing process and so, it was inevitable that Hilary was curious to integrate this technique as an artist.

The method requires the artist to break down what they see then consider how to make marks that build up back together into one. Rather than thinking of creating a single piece through multiple brushstrokes, the work is constructed using form and bands / fields of colour.  Isolating and considering the elements which contribute to the work as a whole has bridged the gap between observation and abstraction for Hilary.

Printmaking is now a key part of her practice.

All prints are part of small editions of around 10-12. Because of technique they are all unique. If you would like to enquire about the various options and costs for framed editions, please click on the button below.

“I was surprised how painterly I can be using the printing press. I want to work freely, and I can still do this, no two prints are the same, and I love that. The process is a discipline but equally has set me free.”

Little Wonders

“ When these pieces come together well it is a delight, however during their making things can also happen it’s like a little gift which can lead to other things. As a result, I am now developing my, ‘Though the Layers’ series of work.”
